Jessie J: A Stylish Diva

Jessie J has hit number one in the music charts for the second time with her new single ‘Domino’. But she’s not just a hit with the charts, but also a big hit in fashion; she has become a stylish diva.

Her first pop video ‘Do it like a dude’ she wears a hooded top, tights, leotard, amongst other clothes. But the most striking thing about her in the video is the black spiked lips. I’m sure this has sparked numerous beauty trends.

In ‘price tag’ music video, she wears very distinctive bold yellow patterned leggings, dresses up as a puppet, ballerina and in a black body suit. Her pop videos are full of costume changes and interesting characters. Which makes them exciting to watch.

She has been pictured in bold printed leggings many times. Also bold printed bodysuits. I like that she is not afraid to make a statement in the clothes she chooses to wear. She wears bold, sassy and beautiful outfits.

On the red carpet for the MTV awards she always looks stunning. Here in bold print again, the leopard print dress is a classic that never seems to go out of style. Even when she has a broken foot she still manages to outshine everyone else with all those sparkling gems on her leg.

In her latest music video ‘Domino’ there are so many exciting costume changes, a patterned bodysuit, bold printed jacket, printed T-shirt and pants, pink patterned jacket and trousers that remind me of pyjamas, black feathered dress to name a few. This video is a feast for fashion lovers’ eyes. I can’t wait to see what she wears in her next video. Jessie J has certainly become a style icon to rival other pop divas.

Fashion Icon:Vivienne Westwood
Vivienne Westwood
United Kingdom

Vivienne Westwood has over the years been one of the most influential and significant designers of all time, yet she still manages to create eccentric and daring pieces showing that conformity in the fashion industry is a thing of the past.

From her Anglo-Mania collection of 2008 to her recent AW/2011-12 Gold label collection. The seventy year old fashion designer has shown that everything is possible with a piece of material and accesoires, her daring and challenging clothing has graced many catwalks world-wide from London to Milan. But I think for me my fondness of Vivienne

Westwood stems from what she represents as a designer through her clothing, the need not to conform to everyone else’s definition of styling, but to have a revolutionary state of mind when it comes to fashion and styling. Not being afraid to try something different. Who said that stripes and checker print don’t go together?Unfortuntely we all can’t afford Vivienne Westwood’s clothing with starting prices from a hundred a fifty pounds! but you don’t have to wear Vivienne Westwood clothes to be daring.

Look In your wardrobe and pick out two clothing items that according to the so-called “fashion-rules” shouldn’t be worn together and try it on you may be shocked at what unusual one of a kind outfits you can put together within minutes. So take a note from Vivienne Westwood’s book and stop trying to follow a fashion trend, create your own!

Lady Gaga’s world of fashion by Ruth Holloway
Lady Gaga
USA

Ask anyone who their style icon is and they might say Audrey Hepburn or twiggy. Well mine is Lady Gaga. Fashion is all about establishing who you are and she is never afraid to be herself. I view fashion as not just everyday wear but a work of art. And Lady Gaga has made a name for herself with all the outrageous outfits that I see as an art form.

Take the meat dress for example, probably her most controversial outfit to date and probably to be honest my least favourite only as I’m mainly vegetarian. But this proves that she is never afraid to make a statement and isn’t that what fashion is all about, making a statement?

Here is another example of fashion as an art form with hoop and wire. Though personally looking at this scoobies comes to mind. You get a packet and think what can i do with them well here’s an idea make a dress out of them! This is very fairy-tale like and I almost feel like she is telling a story through her outfits like she does in her videos.

Take the Judas video a song about loving a man who has done you wrong. She covers many guises from biker chick to holy woman to a dramatic collapse at the end. Wouldn’t we all love one of those jackets with names at the back?

Here we see her in a dress designed by one of my favourite fashion designers Alexander McQueen, whom lady gaga has always supported in wearing his clothes and shoes. How regal she looks here like celeb royalty for hasn’t she a faithful fan base of little monsters that look up to her as mother monster.

The thing i love about her is it’s so exciting to see what she’s going to wear next and she never disappoints. The bubble dress is awesome I wonder how long they took to burst though I doubt they are the variety you get in a tube. Fashion adds interest to the world, without it the world would be a very boring place. My interest in it is never fading as fashion never fades. Lady gaga keeps reinventing herself in exciting new ways. And that’s something we should all aspire to, maybe not to the same extent but to be individuals, to stand out from the crowd and love the person you are because baby you were born this way.

Victoria Beckham, grand princess in the society of celebrity
Victoria Beckham
United Kingdom

On the face of it, Victoria Beckham, grand princess in the society of celebrity, is in need of no definition. Having been in one of the most successful girl bands of all time, having mothered three boys and the newly-arrived Harper Seven without losing the figure of a

The look is at its best when its at it simplest

teenager, as well as, of course, being the wife of the globe’s most marketable footballer, you would figure that the star of Mrs Beckham defines itself. You can only imagine eulogy on top of adulation for the erstwhile pop star-turned-style icon; that she’s proved her right to saturate the pages of tabloids and gossip magazines alike. However, despite the fame and the attention, the career of Mrs Beckham hasn’t always been something to crow about. Let’s face it; she was the Spice Girl that really didn’t do much, with a solo career better left forgotten (the only Spice Girl not to achieve a No.1 single says it all!) Her descent into obscurity was turned into a catapult to superstardom through her marriage to the super-talented Becks. From then on, she became the accoutrement to his burgeoning appeal, her red dwarf star being sucked into the shining aurora of his expanding galaxy.

To be fair, though, she did so much to market her husband’s image, cultivating that metro-sexual striker of style that has since matured and is so revered today. Draping off her husband’s arm, she began to turn attention for her style, as well as the way she so obviously fashioned his. That wispy elegance that began to be a hallmark beyond the pout, she has now capitalised on, developing her own, distinct fashion range. The inevitable fashion house has emerged and Mrs Beckham has now produced her autumn/winter collection that continues to demonstrate all the alluring features of the Beckham-esque look.

Firstly, there is the use of the boldest of colours to achieve a statement that is strength without power and assuredness without arrogance. The earthy seasonal tones evoke swirling leaves and the arching trees of a Parisian park, making a bold but femininely chic statement. That couples with the sleekness and fine lines, with cuts that are vivaciously serene and mirror the sophistication which has become the leitmotiv of her image. These characteristics define the look in Beckham’s new season and it has given a striking effect. The look is at its best when it is at its simplest. The absence of fussiness: no pockets, no frills, no distracting patterns, almost a piece of cloth draped into shape around a svelte figure that achieves a modish charm. This defining look is where she is at her best, celebrating the slim, young, 20-something sophisticate. However, when the style becomes over-worked and the visual becomes more complicated, the hallmark gets more lost in a blur of other pretences. The successfully sleek designs hark to the 50s, with Hepburn in mind, perhaps. The more overworked designs in the Beckham range appear to nod towards Dynasty and that quintessential appeal, with its strength in understatement, is compromised by a more awkward clash of ideals. Much more successful is where Beckham recreates the elegant flow and stylish sleekness that has garnered for her, a name in fashion. Whatever one’s views are on the often fame-hugging fashion diva, she has achieved a look that has become indubitably her and exudes in unmistakably style.
